It is a wonderful introduction to Zanzibar which gives you the measure of the rich cultural heritage of the island. The walking tour offers an overview of the history of the stone city. Ancient architecturally magnificent houses, narrow sand and stone streets (some are over 200 years old), carved wooden Arab/Indian doors. We start this tour at the town's main market which was opened in 1904, where the island's tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and fresh fish are sold. Our next stop will be at the Anglican Church of Christ built by Bishop Steers in 1873 on the site where slaves were sold at auction. Other highlights of our historic city tour are: a visit to House of Wonders – this palace was built in 1883 by the Sultan of the island, Forodhani Gardens where you can watch the sun go down while enjoying locally made dishes : Zanzibar pizzas and seafood on the barbecue. + Visit to Old Fort - Built by the Portuguese.
